FREMONT COUNTY PUBLIC CAMPING AREAS
Hayden Creek Campground
Hayden Creek Campground is located near Coaldale. It has 11 campsites that are first-come, first-served, a vault toilet, and no water. RVs are limited to 25 feet. Click HERE for the Forest Service info for this campground, including fees. Directions: From the far west end of Cañon City, travel west on Highway 50 for 36.8 miles to Coaldale. Turn left at County Road 6. Proceed for 5 miles to the campground.
Oil Well Flats
Oil Well Flats north of Cañon City is managed by the BLM and has a number of designated camping spots. Campers are requested to camp in these designated, numbered sites only. No drinking water, no toilets, no trash receptacles. Bring a fire pan and your own firewood.
Directions: From the roundabout at Main St and 15th St in Cañon City, go north on 15th for .9 mi and turn right on Central Avenue. Proceed for 1 mile and turn left on Field Avenue. Proceed for 2.2 miles and merge with Red Canyon Rd. Proceed for 3.7 miles. Just past the bridge over Fourmile Creek, turn right onto the dirt road and follow the road into the area.
The Bank and Sand Gulch
Sand Gulch has 15 first-come, first served sites, including one group site. 20 ft max RV length, 6450 ft elev, tables, grill, toilets. The Bank Campground has13 first-come, first served sites. RVs not recommended, 6800 ft elev, tables, grill, toilets. There is a fee for both campgrounds. Individual Campsites: $7/Night (Accommodates 8-10 People). Group Campsites: $14/ Night (Accommodates up to 20 People).
DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 50 in Canon City, turn N onto Dozier Street or head North on Raynolds. Travel north on either road as both will curve to the left and intersect Field Avenue. Turn north (right) on Field and travel on this two-lane road for about five miles. It will join Fremont County Road 9 (also called Red Canyon Road) at a Y intersection. From here, continue north for 9.4 miles. You will see two roads on the left before the road you are traveling on turns to dirt. Take the first one you come to and stay right at the next Y intersection following the signs to Sand Gulch Campground. The second left takes you to the Banks Campground. Travel by a corral and trailer parking and continue on the steep windy dirt road for approximately 1.25 miles. The campground will be on your right.
AHRA - Rincon
Eight campsites (each consists of tent pad, fire grill, and table). Four vault toilets.

Directions: Rincon is off of Highway 50 about eight miles east of Salida. It is located at mile marker 231 between the towns of Swissvale and Howard. The exit is located on the north side on a very curvy section of the highway.
Coaldale Campground
Coaldale Campground is currently closed due to flood damage from Hayden Pass fire.
Temple Canyon
There are two camping areas in Temple Canyon Park, which is owned by the City of Cañon City. There are 8 sites, no drinking water, no trash receptacles, and no fees to camp here. Directions: From the west end of Cañon City on Hwy 50, go south on 1st Street for one mile. Keep to the right on County Road 3 which becomes Temple Canyon Road. Follow the signs to Temple Canyon Park. The road into the park but can generally be navigated by passenger cars.
East Ridge Campground
AHRA - Five Points
Facilities:

Directions: Five Points campground is located approximately 15 miles west of Cañon City off U.S. Highway 50 at mile marker 260 between the towns of Cañon City and Cotopaxi. The road has a major acceleration/deceleration lane and is well marked with signs on the highway.

AHRA - Vallie Bridge
Vallie Bridge is a walk-in/boat-in campground only.

Directions: From U.S. Highway 50 at mile marker 239 between the towns of Howard and Coaldale, approximately 20 miles east of Salida. Turn north onto Fremont County Road 45, cross the river and park in the day use site. Please note this is a boat-in/walk-in only campground and you will have to unload your equipment and park at the designated parking area. Vallie Bridge campground can be accessed from the beach for campers who boat in, and there is a walking trail that goes from the campground, across County Road 45 to the restroom.
