Senior Services Solutions Plus began in 1984 under the name Friendly Visitors. Members of three local churches collaborated in assisting the elderly with their needs and their ability to live independently in their own homes. A board of directors was elected and in 1987 Friendly Visitors was incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. In 2009, the name was changed to Senior Services Solutions Plus.
In the past few years, the mission has changed to focus solely on providing transportation to non-emergency medical, dental and optical appointments, including cancer treatments and dialysis, for Fremont County adults. SSSP partners with Orchard of Hope to provide rides for cancer patients.
Senior Services Solutions Plus provides rides both locally and to Pueblo and Colorado Springs and requires at least one week’s notice. All transportation depends on driver availability. Volunteer drivers use their own vehicles to provide transportation. They are paid a stipend per trip to help offset the cost of fuel. SSSP has 2 part-time staff members: Executive Director and Coordinator.
SSSP rely on grants, fundraisers and donations to maintain operations and offset the cost of those clients who are unable to pay the stipend due to financial hardship. Some of the grantors include: AV Hunter Trust, City of Cañon City, Daniels Fund, Duncan Trust, NextFifty Initiative, St. Thomas More Yankton Benedictine Sisters Fund, Virginia Hill Charitable Trust.
Donors include: local churches, businesses and individuals
SSSP office is located in the East Cañon Hall, 321 N Cottonwood Ave., Cañon City, which is available to rent
for small gatherings.
How can people help? Consider becoming a volunteer driver or board member. Drivers need a clean, reliable vehicle, current driver’s license, registration and insurance.
